The 2017 edition of the International Fair of Bergamo’s Agri Slow Travel Tourism, scheduled from February 17 to 19, features again as Media Partner FullTravel.it.

“The renewed collaboration, now in its third year,” stated Anna Bruno, journalist and editor-in-chief of the magazine, “was welcomed with satisfaction by myself and the entire team. For some time, our magazine has been dedicated to sustainable tourism and slow travel and events like Agri Travel Slow of Bergamo can only strengthen our conviction about new forms of tourism that are already present. This is the path to pursue for an increasingly mindful tourism that respects local customs, traditions, and economy. On the FullTravel.it magazine, there has long been a dedicated section for slow tourism,” concluded the director.

“It is a real pleasure to participate as Media Partner at the Bergamo fair in the 2017 edition of Agri&Slow Travel, an international showcase of rural and slow tourism,” said Raffaele Giuseppe Lopardo, CEO of FullPress Agency. “The event has been gaining increasingly more media prominence, becoming a reference point for those involved in issues related to slow tourism, culture, and sustainability. We thank the organizers and Fiera Bergamo for inviting us since the very first edition.”

International Fair of Bergamo’s Agri Slow Travel

Agri Travel & Slow Travel Expo reaches its third edition in 2017 (February 17-19) with an even more original and innovative format to celebrate 2017, International Year of Sustainable Tourism (UNWTO), which will be a key theme for the event.

Agri Travel & Slow Travel Expo is an international fair dedicated to promoting rural and slow tourism, revolving around four key words that guide the event: AGRICULTURE, CULTURE, TOURISM, AND SUSTAINABILITY. It also emphasizes FOOD, always the star, representing a powerful cultural identity factor that describes places comprehensively through stories, traditions, economies, and agricultural models.

Thanks to the success of previous editions and the presence of numerous foreign delegations from EXPO 2015, the event now attracts a large motivated and interested audience, including leading opinion leaders in the tourism, environmental, and cultural sectors, providing opportunities for networking and future collaborations, including participation in conferences, workshops, and cultural and gastronomic events.

Furthermore, the excellent location of the exhibition center (just a few kilometers from Orio al Serio’s international Il Caravaggio Airport—Italy’s third busiest hub—and close to Linate and Malpensa airports) will facilitate the arrival of many European visitors expected for the European Rural Development Congress via organized tourism by Eurogites (European Confederation of Rural Tourism, comprising 35 associations from 27 European countries), which for the first time in Italy, will hold its biennial meeting at Agri Travel & Slow Travel Expo.

Key strengths of Bergamo’s Agri Slow Travel

  • Large attendance of motivated audiences interested in rural issues, slow tourism, and conscious consumption
  • Participation of leading opinion leaders of the tourism branch, environmental and cultural sectors representing the national, European, and international panorama
  • Organization of meetings with public and private entities at national and international levels
  • Opportunities to participate in conferences and workshops on specific topics and the rich program of cultural and gastronomic events
  • Presence of numerous European countries in the Rural Tourism Conference by Eurogites, the European Confederation of Rural Tourism, which in 2017 will be held for the first time in Italy at Agri Travel & Slow Travel Expo
  • Interventions by non-European entities with whom fruitful relationships have been built since the previous edition thanks to Expo 2015
  • Outstanding location of the exhibition center from a logistical point of view (just a few km from Orio al Serio’s international airport—Italy’s third busiest—and proximity to Linate and Malpensa airports)
  • Promotion of the most important aspects related to the multifunctionality of current farms (direct sales, catering, educational farms, accommodations, social and recreational activities)

This event also provides an important platform for dialogue where public and private entities, associations, and institutions can exchange ideas in a stimulating environment, fostering collaboration among SMEs, cooperatives, trade associations, and representatives of the national and international travel system, forming an extensive value chain of tourism.

Sustainable and Slow Tourism

The development of rural tourism is also supported by new travel models that reflect contemporary trends and increasingly show strong links to concepts such as quality of life, sustainability, and contact with nature. This is the essence of slow tourism—focused on in-depth exploration of territories through slow travel modes like walking, biking, rural tourism, cultural routes, mountain and hill itineraries, waterways, and spiritual paths—allowing visitors to savor the most intimate aspects of a place tied to its culture, excellence, and landscape.

Key interest sectors of Bergamo’s Agri Slow Travel

In brief, the following sectors are directly or potentially interested in the event, which, as a reminder, is conceived both as a showcase for organized and qualified tourism proposals following new and updated territorial marketing criteria, and as a ‘laboratory’ for building networks, exchanges, and collaborations to better promote natural and cultural heritage of the involved areas and, simultaneously, to foster the adoption of new lifestyles, approaches to resource management inspired by environmental protection and sustainable development, in alignment with the most authoritative international organizations:

FOOD AND AGRICULTURE. The FOOD link. Food as a driver in the promotional and cultural promotion of a territory. Crossing themes and proposals, food will be a star at the fair in all its possible forms, forming a real connecting ring among various sections through recognized features like enogastronomy and the multifunctionality of agriculture: safety and traceability, typicity, originality, and Made in Italy, territorial brands. Especially relevant in this 2017 edition is the comparison of different consumption patterns and approaches where the encounter of cultures creates significant opportunities to understand different peoples through food. There will be many national and international cuisine proposals, with spaces assigned to gastronomy from diverse countries, cultural and informational sessions, tastings, and showcooking hosted by renowned chefs. Moreover, the emerging attention to organic, vegetarian, vegan, macrobiotic, and gluten-free diets offers an essential context to discuss significant themes related to well-being and quality of life, concepts highly valued even in rural and tourist areas.

SLOW TOURISM. Learning, discovering, and tasting…slowly: the journey is more than just passage.

Here are the guiding words of Agri Travel & Slow Travel Expo, aiming to promote an idea of travel where every moment is memorable. Walking tours, cycling routes, rural tourism, and cultural paths based on slowness and an approach rooted in concepts like well-being and quality of life. This kind of travel involves gaining an in-depth understanding of territories through slow travel modes, allowing visitors to experience the most intimate aspects of a place linked to its culture, its specialties, and its landscape. This approach makes the journey a meaningful and enriching experience at every stage.

ENVIRONMENT AND TERRITORIES. Agri Travel & Slow Travel Expo promotes and values the beauty of the rural world along with the initiatives and tourism opportunities visitors can explore and experience. The guiding keywords reveal immediately the event’s great potential: not only places but also their protection and safeguarding from a slow perspective that encompasses well-being and quality of life, inherently linked to ecology, sustainability, and biodiversity. For this reason, the fair hosts public and private entities, both national and international, especially those involved in these goals.

ACCESSIBLE TOURISM. Starting from the principle that travel today is a primary social need and an important means of knowledge, personal growth, and emancipation (as well as an important element of every country’s economy), this year’s program will include a focus on accessible tourism and travel options for all. Exhibitors, speakers, and participants in the B2B area will discuss: sensory travel, travel options and tools for disabled persons and families, structural adaptations for welcoming (rules, opportunities, and government incentives), architecture and design for all, and strategies to reduce architectural barriers.

TOURISM AND SUSTAINABILITY. Ecotourism and green travel: sustainable travel starts here. The event concentrates many activities on the promotion and understanding of green structures that combine attention to detail with environmental care and sustainability. A form of tourism rooted in the idea that each individual can contribute—also through their travel choices—to safeguarding the planet, maintaining ecological integrity of places by choosing eco-friendly transportation or accommodations aligned with strict sustainability criteria.

INTERNATIONALIZATION. The event involves both public and private entities, domestic and international, catering to both the general public and operators across various sectors and categories of entrepreneurs. This illustrates the role of the event as a gateway to international markets.

The three days of the event also include an agenda, currently being finalized, dedicated to training and discussing themes related to sector promotion through conferences, workshops, and spaces for presenting success stories and best practices.

WORKSHOPS AND CONFERENCES A packed schedule of meetings, presentations, and workshops aimed at informing the public and industry professionals and expanding knowledge in rural and slow tourism. Moreover, it facilitates networking opportunities among entities, providing valuable information for business growth, new funding options, calls for proposals, observing international examples, and strategically communicating one’s work.

SHOWCOOKING Food, as declared during the universal Expo2015, is one of the main protagonists in the process of understanding and exploring the territories, closely linked to the “slow” philosophy. Cooking styles, traditional dishes, innovative presentation methods, and hospitality practices: these are the core ingredients of the menu at the SHOWCOOKING SPACE, where tradition and modernity intertwine and simplicity meets creative ideas.

ENTERTAINMENT: From dance and music to theater and historical reenactments: Agri Travel & Slow Travel Expo showcases numerous performances that highlight the variety and richness of the surrounding regions, with their history, traditions, and cultural identity. This is also where the event opens to the world, showing the wealth and vibrancy of diversity across the globe.
