Belgium was already being monitored following the attacks on May 24, at the Jewish Museum and the escape of the terrorists responsible for the January and November attacks in France, who reportedly took refuge (according to international intelligence) in this country. The arrest of the number one suspect, involved in the November attack in Paris (according to investigators), has, most likely, reignited terrorist hatred in Belgium, which has been reflected in recent attacks.
Since last November 17, however, the terrorism alert level in the country has risen to 3 out of 4 (the maximum). One week after, the terrorism alert in the capital Brussels was lowered from 4 to 3.
Farnesina Belgium
The Farnesina, even prior to the recent attacks at Zaventem Airport and the Brussels subway, advised “compatriots to exercise particular vigilance and caution, especially in public places with high concentrations of people (including museums and shopping centers), and to scrupulously follow the instructions of Belgian authorities.
