For traveling to the United States starting January 22, Homeland Security requires all travelers of non-U.S. nationality crossing the U.S. border by land to provide proof of vaccination.

This change does not apply to U.S. citizens (citizens, green card holders, etc.). No other requirements (COVID test) are needed, only proof of vaccination.

It is announced by Visita Usa Italy which reports the note issued by the Consulate.

Good afternoon Stakeholders,

We are sharing new DHS requirements that will require non-U.S. individuals seeking to enter the United States via land ports of entry and ferry terminals at the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide related proof of vaccination, as COVID-19 cases continue to rise nationwide.

These changes will go into effect, Friday, January 21st, 2022, at 09:00 p.m. PST (local time).

These new restrictions will apply to non-U.S. individuals who are traveling for both essential and non-essential reasons. They will not apply to U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, or U.S. nationals.

As travel resumes, wait times are expected to increase. We encourage travelers to remember our San Diego Field Office travel tips when crossing the border:

  • Don’t travel during peak times if avoidable.
  • Non-U.S. individuals need to verbally attest to their vaccination status.
  • Please Line up in the proper lanes. (e.g., Sentri, Ready Lane and All Traffic)
  • Save Time! And utilize the CBP One App to obtain your Electronic I-94.
