Data directly from the accommodations in the Amalfi Coast shows a strong interest in stays for June, and September demand is already emerging. Tourists are mainly foreigners, with the United States being the most active nationality.
The Amalfi Coast is once again ready to welcome tourists and, despite the difficulties of recent months, local operators are optimistic and looking forward to the upcoming summer season. Reservations are already starting to come in, but what is the market sentiment? Which travel periods are most searched for and what is the demand trend?
In most Italian seaside destinations, searches for overnight stays are mainly concentrated on weekends, with the traditional seasonality culminating in the central weeks of August and a relatively lower spring demand. One might think this is the normal trend for all seaside resorts, but the data clearly show that this is not the case. Tourist demand also varies substantially from one destination to another, especially when considering the different aspects of the Sea Product Italy.

Tourists searching for the Amalfi Coast are not (yet) interested in August and do not show particular interest in weekend stays: as shown by the graph, demand is quite homogeneous and geared towards trips in May-June. Conversely, July and August currently represent months with low demand, while demand for September is already emerging.
Summary
The Amalfi Coast loved by international tourists
As can be seen from the chart, international tourists constitute a significant part of the potential market for the Coast (more than 80%), but this is not the only factor influencing this market type. The Venetian Riviera, for example, is a seaside destination with a high share of foreign tourists, but it falls into the large group of destinations with a “classic” seasonal demand. So, what is the factor that makes the demand for a seaside tourist destination less seasonal? In this case, the geographic positioning of the destination is the crucial factor: the Amalfi Coast is particularly suited for multi-destination trips, as it is close to the most famous tourist locations worldwide.
Americans Prefer the Amalfi Coast
Another factor is the composition of the foreign market: while in the Venetian Riviera, the main foreign markets are short-range (Austria, Germany, Switzerland), the more active markets on the Amalfi Coast are long and very long distance, for which geographic distances and travel times are of different importance. According to real-time search data on Booking Engines, among the most active foreign markets for the Amalfi Coast, the United States ranks first, with demand pressure higher than that of Italians. Following are the United Kingdom, Germany, and Canada.

There are no significant changes in demand clusters: the Amalfi Coast has traditionally been a destination for couples or small family groups, and these remain the primary segments today. Search data for overnight stays from couples account for 81% of the total and mainly come from foreign visitors. Families, on the other hand, represent 13% and are mostly Italian.
