The tourism press calls for the protection of the image of the promotion of the Italian Tourism System

The journalists of GIST, Italian Tourist Press Group, are asking the government and the institutions responsible for promoting tourism to initiate a true Phase 2, also in terms of communication, to support the return to normality for the country and all its hospitality facilities.

I GIST journalists, the Italian Group of Tourism Press, have always been committed to promoting tourism around the world, and hope that free movement between States will soon be restored, as it is necessary for the recovery of theglobal economy. In fact, not only does the Italian GDP rely significantly on tourism, but so do the European and global economies.

The Italian tourism sector is sustained by both incoming and outgoing flows, and as we emphasized in our ” Manifesto for Travel and Tourism Journalism“, we ask the Ministry of Tourism to take responsibility, along with the State-Regions Conference, for protecting the image and promoting the Italian Tourism System, which needs the removal of biases and measures adopted by individual European countries.

We want to tell the story of Italy, but also the world. As we have always done, with the professionalism and quality that tourism deserves.

Promote the beauty and safety of the Italian tourism offer, with institutional campaigns in the world’s leading media outlets. The Italian Government should take urgent action to restore the proper flow of information about the health situation, to protect and promote the image of our country. No to tourist corridors and agreements between European countries that harm the Italian tourism economy.

Our country, although first and hardest hit by the coronavirus in Europe, has emerged from the emergency and today has a number of infections similar to that of many other European countries.

Italy has statistical data demonstrating the remission of the coronavirus, and the return to normality is sanctioned by both regional and national measures. Destinations and tourist facilities are ready to welcome guests from all over the world, in complete safety and in compliance with the rules, which in some cases are much stricter than in other European countries.

We therefore believe that the restrictive measures adopted against Italy, concerning tourist flows and border access, are now outdated, as they do not reflect the real and current health situation. The continuation of restrictive attitudes towards Italians traveling abroad, especially within the Schengen area, as well as the creation of unjustified tourist corridors that exclude Italy, must be condemned and rejected as they economically penalize our country compared to the rest of Europe. Similarly, certain proposals from Italian regions that aim to introduce senseless and unworkable entry requirements must be rejected. Those who think they can introduce swabs and serological tests at any border do not understand how the tourism world works or how travel bookings operate.

It is necessary – declared GIST President Sabrina Talarico – for Europe to change its attitude towards us and for the Italian government to intervene promptly and effectively to restore correct and up-to-date information flows, as well as to protect Italy’s image, which has been seriously damaged.”
