Il territorio di Rhodes is mostly rich in hills and it is indeed a mountain range that divides the island into two climatically different areas. The western coast is windier due to the meltemi, while the eastern coast is warmer. However, in any area and at any time you arrive on the island of Rhodes, there is a very high chance of finding a sunny day.
Bathed everywhere by crystal-clear waters of intense blue color, the beaches of the island of Rhodes are known and frequented for their variety. You can choose, in fact, between the fascinating rocks of the northwest coast and the soft sands of the southern side. And again between the deserted beaches, perfect for a good dose of privacy, and windy beaches favored by windsurfing enthusiasts.
Among the most popular beaches are those of Kalithea with its thermal baths, of Faliraki partly also intended for nudists, of Antony Quinn with its pine groves, of Lindos ideal for families, of Kiotari with its water sports center, and of Ixia with its palm trees and sports centers. Beach entertainment on the island of Rhodes reaches its peak at the Water Park (in Faliraki), the largest water park in Europe with a variety of amusements for all ages.
Alongside relaxation and water entertainment, the island of Rhodes also offers interesting tours to discover nature and history. Enchanting is the Valley of the Butterflies, about 25 kilometers from the capital Rhodes, a natural park where millions of brown-reddish colored butterflies gather.
Equally interesting is the ancient city of Lindos (known for its white houses) whose acropolis is situated on a hill dropping steeply into the sea. Thanks to its prominent position on a high rock, the Castle of the Knights is visible even from kilometers away.
