Located in the historic Palazzo Montesano, it occupies seven rooms on the main floor of the palace, and contains as many as 600 musical instruments from all parts of the world. The collection is attributed to the “exploratory” genius and the “curiosity” of the late Duccio Belgiorno from Modica.
These are rare, sometimes unique artifacts, some of which are impossible to find because they come from countries where entry visas are not granted by the state, such as Tibet, from which two flutes are presented, with a very original sound, made from “human tibias” and beautifully inlaid, and a membranophone (double-skinned drum: damaru) that uses “human” skullcaps as a resonating body. The uniqueness of the specimens alone indicates the intrinsic value of the collection.
