Rara testimony in Italy of its kind, the Museo della Navigazione Fluviale di Battaglia Terme was born with the aim of bringing to light an important page of history by reviving and showcasing the valuable work of professional figures connected to the river such as boatmen, horsemen, sand miners, shipwrights, and millers. For many centuries, in fact, this town, also thanks to its location, has been the center of a vast network of river trade, and a true civilization developed around the river. The project began by collecting testimonies: from photos to various tools, until finally, at the end of the 1990s, the creation of the museum itself. The exhibition path is divided over two floors and five rooms, each dedicated to a specific theme: room A illustrates the boats with their components and types; room B displays the tools used in the shipyards or the yards for the construction and maintenance of boats; room C is dedicated to waterways with hydrographic maps and other evidence related to waterways; room D deals with the evolution over the years of propulsion tools; room E closes the exhibition with a section dedicated to life on board and its objects.
