Rara testimony in Italy of its kind, the Museo della Navigazione Fluviale di Battaglia Terme was created with the aim of bringing to light an important historical chapter by reviving and sharing the valuable work of professional figures connected to the river such as boatmen, cavalcanti, sabionari, squeraroi, millers. For many centuries, in fact, this town, also thanks to its location, was the hub of a vast network of river trade and a true civilization developed around the river. The project began by collecting testimonies: from photos to various tools, until, at the end of the Nineties, the setting up of the museum itself. The exhibition route is arranged on two floors and in five rooms, each dedicated to a specific theme: room A illustrates the boats with their components and types; room B displays the tools used in the squeri or yards for the construction and maintenance of boats; room C is dedicated to waterways with hydrographic maps and other testimonies related to water routes; room D deals with the evolution over the years of propulsion instruments; room E concludes the exhibition with a section dedicated to life on board and its objects.
