This, however, is just the prelude given the varied offerings of the city, a world of cultural, intellectual, artistic, and fashion vibrancy.

It is hard to resist Madrid. Let’s see what to see in Madrid in two days.

First day in Madrid

What to do in Madrid. Many arrive here attracted by the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, and the Reina Sofia Museum: the area, that is, better known as the Madrid Golden Triangle. How can you blame them! Indeed, these cultural containers deserve the trip even taken individually. However, it is best to plan right away a visit to the Prado Museum where art treasures can be found, including those of Italian artists.

In these museums are kept masterpieces of Spanish contemporary art, works by Velázquez, Goya, Titian, Durer, Degas, Rubens, the private collection of Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza; not to mention the majestic Guernica by Picasso, displayed at the Reina Sofia. There is something for every taste, since there are as many as 40 museums in the city, some smaller but no less interesting.

A visit to the Royal Palace of Madrid is a must which, among the many beauties including fabulous royal rooms, displays the armory, a truly remarkable collection of weapons gathered over centuries. To thoroughly visit the museums and the royal palace, a whole day is needed. Other small attractions will be visited the next day.

Second day in Madrid

To admire the typical architectures of the city, you can head towards Plaza Mayor and the nearby Puerta del Sol, both surrounded by magnificent buildings. A peculiarity of Madrid is also an Egyptian-style construction, the Temple of Debod.

If the walk has put your feet to the test, a refreshing stop at the Parque del Buen Retiro is ideal to rest surrounded by a beautiful park, not far from the Prado Museum.

You need to stock up on energy because Madrid is the kingdom of entertainment especially at night: every evening there is a continuous party that literally explodes on the weekend when Madrilenians, tourists, and people from all over Spain flood the streets.

Time seems diluted: the dances in the disco start no earlier than 3 in the morning and, for the die-hards, there are many places (sometimes even temporary) for after-hour parties. Madrid is also a gay-friendly capital, just think of the Chueca neighborhood which, once a very elegant area, had become a degraded environment, revamped by the gay community that gave rise to a new phase for Chueca, cleaner, more joyful, and lively. However, this neighborhood is now a nightlife center at 360°, not only for the gay community.

Far from being a sleepy city, given the nocturnal wear and tear, Madrid by day returns to being orderly and efficient, a metropolitan area increasingly oriented towards productivity without forgetting healthy fun.

It is clear that a visit to Madrid in 2 days is only advice on what to do in the Spanish city. To know in detail the places of interest in Madrid, please refer to the guide covering a longer period. Because Madrid is a city worth visiting.
