The Shard is the name of a building in London that already holds a record: it is the tallest skyscraper in all of Europe. The Shard – the shard – illuminates and characterizes the London skyline, casting lights from its pyramid-shaped but multifaceted structure, right from the heart of the Southwark district.
The Shard bears the signature of Italian architect Renzo Piano and rises 310 meters into the sky of London. Inside, there are 95 floors, accessible via 44 elevators that can transport up to 12 thousand people: this is the maximum capacity of The Shard.
Being a true London attraction, The Shard can be visited: at the top of the kaleidoscopic building, visitors can access panoramic galleries, upon payment of an entrance ticket.
The price is certainly not low: it is about 25 pounds per person for a full (adult) ticket, while for children the price is 19 pounds.
Prices are decidedly high, as high as the structure of The Shard itself: there have indeed been controversies regarding these charges considered excessive, especially when compared to tickets for climbing famous European attractions, such as the TV tower in Berlin or the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
