The Tuscan landscape is gentle as it is predominantly hilly, so nature in Tuscany is truly welcoming, thanks to a variety and scenic beauty worthy of note. If Mother Nature has been benevolent, man has done the rest over the centuries by building cities of incredible impact: Florence, Siena, Pisa, Pistoia are masterpieces of architecture famous worldwide.
Not to be outdone are the coastal areas of Tuscany, for long stretches still untouched and kissed by the sun. Rich in ancient villages and farmhouses, this land has known and continues to know how to make good use of its rich history and its past: towns such as San Gimignano, Volterra, Arezzo, Grosseto, Castiglion Fiorentino, Orbetello, Prato and many others, represent an excellent combination of historical enhancement and comprehensive tourist offer. Also beautiful are the Medici villas, especially around Prato and Florence.
Tuscany is a land of illustrious characters: Leonardo da Vinci and Dante Alighieri are just two of the notable representatives worldwide. Most of tourism in Tuscany focuses on the seaside areas of Versilia and particularly Viareggio, but the Tuscan Maremma also holds its own very well.
A prominent place is also taken by the thermal baths of Tuscany, with the resorts of Montecatini, Saturnia, and Chianciano Terme. Obviously, there are also the wonders of the art cities to visit, foremost Florence, but Pisa, Pistoia, and Arezzo are no less impressive. The north of Tuscany is also captivating with the provinces of Massa and Carrara, where the extraction and processing of the famous Carrara marble holds particular relevance.
And while in summer Tuscany is crowded even on the islands off its coast (Elba, Gorgona, Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio, and Giannutri), in winter you can ski on the slopes of Abetone and Monte Amiata. A region with many holiday opportunities that leaves no one dissatisfied.
