The territory, which extends northwest of Rome from Via di Boccea to the coastal plain, includes one of the most important archaeological complexes in central Italy, spanning a vast time range from the Middle Pleistocene to the medieval age.
The establishment of an archaeological park, planned by the Special Superintendence for the Colosseum, the MNR, and the archaeological area of Rome for their jurisdiction, certainly represents one of the most effective means of protecting and enhancing this heritage, enriched by the beauty of the places, still untouched by urban development.
The park’s design, still in the preliminary phase, involves setting up archaeological areas to be integrated into a route that combines archaeological, geological, and natural environment aspects, offering visitors a comprehensive overview of the territory’s history and its settlement. Within this framework is the musealization project of the Pleistocene deposit of La Polledrara di Cecanibbio, whose discovery has sparked increasing interest as archaeological data have been gathered.
The site, located on a plateau between Via di Boccea and Via Aurelia at an elevation of about 83 m above sea level, consists of a portion of an ancient riverbed, uncovered over an area of about 650 square meters, attributable to an ephemeral watercourse with a meandering pattern.
The archaeological excavation identified part of the central channel of the riverbed with the peripheral band up to the east bank.
