Built between 1452 and 1457 within the new wing of the Palazzo dei Priori, it was the seat of the money changers’ guild. From the Hall of the Jurists, with the tribunal on the back wall and carved and inlaid wooden stalls by Gian Pietro Zuccari on the sides, you enter the Hall of Audiences, intended for meetings and public receptions. Half of the right wall is occupied by the tribunal and counters made by Domenico Tasso, while the walls host a cycle of frescoes created by Pietro Vannucci, called Perugino, between 1498 and 1500. Inspired by an iconographic program by the Perugian humanist Francesco Maturanzio, it depicts Mythological Figures (ceiling), Famous characters from Greek and Roman history, Liberal arts, Sibyls and prophets (right and left walls), and the Transfiguration of Christ and the Nativity scene (back wall). From here you access the chapel of Saint John the Baptist, with frescoes by Giannicola di Paolo.
