The museum, housed in the premises of the Department of Mathematics, was set up with the aim of creating an innovative structure that would bring the adult public and school students closer to the world of mathematics.
The initial core of material that gave life to the project came from the exhibition “I racconti di Numeria” (The Stories of Numeria), held in 1999 in collaboration with the Municipality of Rome.
This exhibition, along with the subsequent one the following year, “Le regole del regolo” (The Rules of the Slide Rule), allowed for the collection of numerous mathematical objects, instruments, models, and mathematical machines that encourage a hands-on and interactive approach, in order to stimulate visitors to experiment with mathematical models and understand the rules underlying them.
Among the various objects on display, particularly interesting are the collection of polyhedra and that of plaster models of geometric surfaces.
