The Museum was established in 1999, on the initiative of Mons. Giuseppe Casale, bishop of the archdiocese of Foggia-Bovino. The museum is located in the castle built by the Normans on the ruins of a Roman fortress and later expanded by the Swabians. In the 1600s, it was transformed into a noble palace by the Guevara dukes. From the Norman construction, the massive cylindrical tower is still visible; it is positioned on the corner of the ancient keep, “straddling” a truncated pyramidal spur. Majestic in the simplicity of its elements and mass, from atop a rock it dominates the oldest part of the beautiful historic center. It has a lovely inner courtyard on which the clock tower rises, square in shape, with an octagonal bell chamber. To the right, the ducal palace, whose chapel also houses a precious silver reliquary enclosing in a case a fragment of a Thorn from the crown of Jesus. Attached to the external facade of the palace is the beautiful hanging garden featuring a significant variety of plants and shrubs as well as architectural structures of certain interest (battlemented walls, notable stretches of opus from Roman times, etc.). Designed in the typical style of Italian gardens, and decorated with some female statues, busts, and fountains
