The Civic Museum was established in 1929. Initially located inside the former 16th-century Dominican convent, since 2003 it has been housed within the Swabian Castle. The Civic Museum, focused on history and art, therefore hosts a rich collection of archaeological finds, a series of paintings by Barletta artists, and later donations including those from Giuseppe Gabbiani, Vincenzo De Stefano, Raffaele Girondi, and Ferdinando Cafiero. The exhibition area, which includes a collection of paintings and sculptures from the Neapolitan school from the 17th to 20th century; some sacred-themed panels from the 14th and 15th centuries; and finally works by artists from central-northern Italy of the 19th and 20th centuries, items from the “Cafiero donation”, and Tuscan antiques, is divided into three sections: Ancient Gallery 19th Century Gallery Ferdinando Cafiero Gallery The Civic Museum also houses highly valuable sculptures and artifacts such as a stone bust of Frederick II of Swabia, memorabilia from the Risorgimento, a flag of the 9th Garibaldi Regiment, and a coin cabinet.
