Bathed by the waters of the Aegean Sea, the island of Alonissos has not yet been overrun by mass tourism, making it a favorite destination for unassuming travelers. Ensuring and protecting the island’s natural beauty is the National Marine Park of Alonissos – Northern Sporades (NMPA-NS), the first natural park established in Greece (in 1992).
The Park, which includes 6 other islands and as many as 22 uninhabited islets, is divided into two protected zones: one larger, the other smaller. Alonissos falls within the second area, which imposes some restrictions on free camping and lighting fires.
The journey through the natural wonders of Alonissos begins by landing at Patitiri, which has become the main access point to the island thanks to its natural port. Here, therefore, the tourist flow to and from the Greek mainland and neighboring islands is concentrated.
By caïque boats or on foot via charming trails, you can reach the numerous beaches of Alonissos island, among which stand out Agios Dimitrios (with a wonderful view) and Rousoum (perhaps the most popular due to traditional tavernas, night venues, and rental houses).
Continuing along the coast, you arrive at the characteristic village of Votsi, with its distinctive white houses overlooking yellow ochre rocks and small fishing boats that serve as the backdrop to romantic inns.
