Il Parma Archaeological Museum is divided into two sections. The one that houses the historical collections includes spectacular materials from Veleia, including 12 marble statues of characters from the Julio-Claudian imperial family (first half of the 1st century AD), remarkable Greek, Italic, and Etruscan ceramics, and the prestigious Egyptian section with sarcophagi, canopic jars, papyri, votive bronzes, and the important Magnarini Collection (429 scarabs-seal dated from 2100 to 525 BC).
The rich coin collection is not normally open to the public.
The section that preserves the evidence of the province of Parma includes prehistoric materials from the Paleolithic to the Bronze Age (notable Neolithic finds, including some burials, and those from the “terramare” of the Bronze Age), protohistoric (Etruscans and Ligurians), Roman (statues, architectural fragments, mosaics, funerary inscriptions from Parma and the territory, and a hoard of jewelry and coins from the 3rd century) and Lombard (jewelry from some tombs).
It is possible to purchase a single cumulative ticket for all the Museums of the Pilotta Monumental Complex, allowing visits with a single ticket to the Farnese Theatre, National Gallery, and Archaeological Museum. The single ticket office for all the Pilotta museums is located at the ticket office of the National Gallery.
