Tourism is among the economic sectors most affected by the spread of the coronavirus. Some northern regions, such as Veneto, are experiencing a true nightmare with enormous economic damage. In the area of the Euganean Spa and Hills it is estimated that the hotel sector alone will suffer losses exceeding 20 million euros just in March.

The Abano and Montegrotto Spas, however, are ready to restart and welcome tourists. This is stated in a press release reporting the statements of Umberto Carraro, president of the Consorzio Terme Colli, the sole territorial marketing body for the Euganean Spa area.

It is too early to make a final estimate regarding the losses, but it will be a significant blow. We are receiving cancellations that I would call emotional, coming in the wake of this emergency and unfortunately also extending far into the future. But we are not stopping; the entire tourism sector is ready to welcome those who want to spend their holidays with us, especially because our health spa tourism system offers guarantees that others cannot provide. First of all” – explains Carraro – “Abano Terme and Montegrotto are not in a red zone and there are no restrictions. For days, we have been providing all the information to put users in a position to know the situation and decide how to behave for their holidays without alarmism and in full awareness“.

We are unique” – continues Umberto Carraro – “because the facilities that offer treatments, with hyperthermal water that gushes at 87°, are accredited by the National Health Service and must meet specific health and hospital requirements. Each hotel has a medical director and visiting doctors who subject guests who want or need to undergo spa treatments to a specific admission visit in which their health conditions are assessed, thus allowing any pathologies or suspected cases to be identified already upon entry to the facility“.

“What we offer in our territory, between the spas and the hills, is a holiday immersed in nature where there are no large crowds or gatherings of people,” concludes the president of the Consorzio Terme Colli.

Abano and Montegrotto Spas

The Spas of Abano, Montegrotto, Galzignano, Battaglia and Teolo represent the largest thermal area in Europe. 107 hotels that have made thermal treatments and specialized mud-balneotherapy their hallmark of excellence.

The overall offer of the Euganean Spas includes around 11,000 hotel rooms for a total of about 18,000 beds. The total number of employees working in all the spa hotels is about 5,000 people. The total annual turnover of hotel businesses in the Euganean Spas is approximately €350 million, a figure that makes the entire area one of the largest business realities in the Province of Padua, capable of registering about 3,200,000 overnight stays a year. The average stay in the hotels is 4 days.
