The Orobie Trail is a hiking route located among the Lombard Alps, in the province of Bergamo. The complete itinerary, which serves as a link between the various refuges and bivouacs, was created by the Italian Alpine Club (Bergamo section) between 1950 and 1975.
A very challenging route, especially in winter periods, that will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the heart of the Alps and discover the wildest areas of the Italian mountain range.
The trail winds at average altitudes, around 1500/2000 meters, and extends from one end to the other of the Bergamo province.
Along the way, you can admire the typical flora and fauna of these locations, including: marmots, chamois, eagles, and ibex.
The Orobie Trail is divided into: “Eastern”, characterized by eight daily stages and extends from Valcanale to the Presolana Pass, and “Western”, characterized by six daily stages and extends from Cassiglio to the F.lli Longo Refuge in Valle Brembana.
In the absence of snow, the “eastern” route does not present major difficulties, whereas the “western” route is recommended only for experienced hikers, due to some much more challenging stages characterized by via ferratas.
