Il “Sentiero del Sole” in Valle Aurina, Alto Adige

Il “Sentiero del Sole” in Valle Aurina, in Trentino-Alto Adige, è un cammino di 30 kilometers che vengono percorsi lungo versanti sui quali splende sempre il sole.

Quando la neve si scioglie e lascia spazio ai prati fioriti per il tepore estivo, si riempie di luce il Sentiero del Sole, un’escursione che si snoda morbidamente collegando Lutago to San Pietro, punteggiata da piccole meridiane, unico contatto con il tempo permesso a queste quote. Perché sul versante mai in ombra delle Zillertal Alps, tra i 1000 e i 1450 metri d’altitudine, l’orologio fa giochi strani.

Passo dopo passo, passato e presente diventano una cosa sola e pare di scorgere le orme dei contrabbandieri che utilizzavano questo stesso percorso per sconfinare in Austria, carichi di vino e acquavite, per tornare con bisacce piene di oro bianco, ossia sale e saccarina.

E tra i masi, si ha l’impressione di distinguere il mulo di un “Kroma”, così erano chiamati i vecchi ambulanti che portavano le proprie merci a domicilio, quando la montagna era fatica e coraggio. Sembra un viaggio nel passato, perché i masi sono ancora lì, abitati da fieri contadini, che producono i propri formaggi allevando capre e mucche, e raccolgono erbe officinali dai nomi arrotolati, seguendo saperi tramandati di generazione in generazione.

Lo fanno dove l’aria è pulita, e infatti tutti i prodotti della Aurina Valley sono riconosciuti come biologicamente puri, lo fanno premiati da un ambiente generoso e bellissimo, in cui camminare assaggiando il sapore del latte, dello speck, per riempirsi dell’amor proprio dei superlativi prodotti altoatesini.

The Sun Path lasts about seven hours, ma non è necessario percorrerlo tutto d’un fiato. Nelle vicinanze, ci sono fermate d’autobus per scendere e salire quando si voglia. Perché oltre al cammino principale, c’è tutta una rete di sentieri tematici anche di breve durata, pensata per non perdere nessuno dei miracoli della Valle.

There is, for example, a characteristic excursion dedicated to water, here where it is never missing, so much so that the name Aurina, borrowed from the Aurino river, meant precisely “running water”. It runs fast and icy in the waterfall loop, which starting from Lutago leads up to the Rio Nero waterfall, on foot following the wooden sculptures made by international artists for the annual symposium.

The final destination is a joy for the eyes: a 15-meter drop down to a small blue basin; the river nestles in a protected place where you can enjoy the rainbow (about one and a half hours round trip). Or you can divert to San Giovanni towards the mountain huts, which with their painted private chapels, have erected monuments of faith very close to the sky.

Also in San Giovanni, there is a special excursion dedicated to children who love adventure. It is the Witches’ Path, where it is said that witches often appeared with their brooms and pointed hats: on the path watched by stone men, a big rock to climb, a deep bear cave for the bravest, an enchanted little lake to meet the Sun witch, and finally the enchanted seat of an old sorceress.

The most attentive hiker can also spot signs of a distant past, in the petroglyphs of the Platter Wall: from these stylized carvings, a pair of chamois still leaps, despite the time. And then the San Leonardo path, which passes above the woods and meadows of San Giacomo and hosts a Kneipp facility, where you can immerse tired feet, refresh the limbs and help blood circulation. With the heart beating fast, in love with this Valley.
