Annually, the Austrian National Tourist Office publishes and distributes handy and useful brochures with maps, listing all campsites on a regional basis, with addresses, phone numbers, and the full range of services. To obtain them from Italy, you can call 840 99 99 18 or write to vacanze@austria.info. On site, these brochures are available at tourist offices, automobile clubs, or the headquarters of camper associations, listed below.

Camper in Austria, Question of the Vignette

For campers in Austria, as for cars, a Vignette or carnet de passage is required, a sticker to be affixed to the windshield, which entitles you to drive on highways and expressways. It can be purchased at border service stations, from the relevant automobile clubs or Austrian ones, post offices, and tobacconists. For caravans, no sticker is required.

Campsites in Austria

Despite being numerous, well distributed territorially and generally offering a wide range of services, the campsites in Vienna or the camping sites in Innsbruck and, more generally, the Austrian campsites. are not subject to official classification (there are no stars or otherwise); it is therefore good practice, before setting off, to call, write or consult the websites, most of which have them, to learn about their detailed profile. Almost all campsites in Austria offer discounts to members of sector associations holding the International Camping Card. Besides being convenient bases for exploring a territory full of attractions, Austrian campsites, in general, prove particularly attentive to different types of guests (families, disabled people, small groups..), providing targeted benefits and services, such as, for example, discounted rates for children, or the absence of architectural barriers. Several campsites in Austria, moreover, thanks to their location in pristine scenic areas, by lakes, on the edge of woods and forests, at the foot of stunning alpine peaks, or the fact of having cycle paths and ski lifts within reach, are little paradises for sports enthusiasts and lovers of outdoor life.

Campsites Innsbruck

Just 5 km from the historic center of Innsbruck, Tyrol, we recommend the Camping Innsbruck-Kranebitten (tel. 0043 (0) 512-284180, daily rates from 20.10 euros), framed by a dense forest, with trails winding in all directions. The campsite, spread over an area of 30,000 square meters, with 120 comfortable pitches, pays special attention to children, who have a large and well-equipped playground at their disposal, and to mountain lovers, with free guided trips and excursions.

Camping Carinthia

In Hermagor, Carinthia, a small town just 40 km from the Italian border, there is the Naturpark Schluga Seecamping (tel. 0043- (0) 4282-2051, daily rates from 24.40 euros), nestled in the largest ski area of the region and, for this reason, practically open all year round. In winter, during the Christmas holidays, it offers advantageous rates and conditions and a free ski bus to and from the lifts or cross-country trails.

Near Bad Gastein, an enduring ski and spa resort in Salzburg, there is the Pub Gastein (tel. 0043- (0) 6434-2178, daily rates from 16.30 euros), also open all year round, equipped with modern and comfortable facilities, and excellent for those who love winter sports.

Vienna Campsites

In the first belt of Vienna, just a few tens of minutes from the center, there are the Camping Neue Donau, near the “Donauinsel,” the island on the Danube, one of the most popular recreational spots for Viennese people (tel. 0043-1-202 4010, daily rates from 25 euros) and the Camping Wien West, on the edge of the forest region (tel. 0043-1-914 2314; daily rates from 20.50 euros), a very convenient base for excursions to Schonbrunn Castle and the Lainz Nature Reserve. Both have advanced facilities, easy access to bike paths, public transport to the center, and, at certain times of the year, offer particularly advantageous packages and conditions.
