Now you have the chance to experience a similar adventure with a 14-day self-drive tour through the USA, offered by Naar World Wide Tours, retracing the roads travelled by Thelma and Louise.

Have you ever dreamed of unplugging from everyday life, leaving everything behind, escaping for a while and enjoying well-deserved freedom to discover yourself and the world “out there”?

That’s the premise of the film Thelma & Louise, directed by Ridley Scott. The main characters, Thelma and Louise, two women bored by their conventional, provincial lives, set out on a cross-country road trip in the United States that will change them forever.

The itinerary begins in Los Angeles, the city where the movie opens.

Day One and Two

The first two days are completely free, so every traveler can independently explore both the iconic attractions and the more hidden corners of the city.

Day Three

On the third day, the route heads to Sequoia National Park, California’s first National Park and the second oldest in the US after Yellowstone. Here, you can venture into Crescent Meadow, a grassy expanse surrounded by giant sequoias, and marvel at General Sherman, the largest tree in the world by volume.

Next stop: Moro Rock, a granite dome whose summit is reachable via a 400-step staircase, rewarding you with panoramic vistas over much of the park. You’ll then reach the enchanting Giant Forest, a dense collection of ancient sequoias.

Day Four

The journey continues to Kings Canyon, another national park named for its dramatic gorge. Highlights include Panoramic Point, a scenic overlook with breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada, before arriving in the San Joaquin Valley.

Day Five

The fifth day marks a drastic change in atmosphere: from pristine wilderness to the vibrant, modern rush of city life. Departing from Bakesfield, you head to Las Vegas, the city of lights and entertainment, where you can try your luck at the casino or indulge in some serious shopping for two days.

Days Six to Eight

On the morning of day six, you reach Utah, whose deserts provided the film’s iconic scenery. You’ll explore Zion National Park, known for its dramatic rock formations shaped by centuries of wind and rain. Next is Bryce Canyon, a natural amphitheater filled with spires and hoodoos in vivid shades from yellow to red.

Take your time to discover the park, stopping at spots like Inspiration Point, Bryce Point, Fairview Point, and Sunrise Point for unforgettable views. At Sunset Point, in particular, you can enjoy some of the most memorable sunrises and sunsets.

Delving deeper into Utah, discover Capitol Reef National Park with its white sandstone pinnacles, plus the famous Arches National Park, home to extraordinary natural stone arches—another top spot for stunning sunsets.

Day Nine

The ninth day is yours to design: from Moab, you can set out on off-road adventures, scenic flights, or canoe trips in the surrounding parks, especially Arches and Canyonlands.

Days Ten to Thirteen

Tenth day brings you to Colorado, also known as the Centennial State, which joined the Union in 1876, a century after the Declaration of Independence.
Essential stops: Grand Junction, renowned for its vineyards, and Montrose. Continue through America’s legendary parks to reach Gunnison National Park, where visitors often spot antelopes, cougars, bears, and elk.
Onwards to Colorado Springs, you’ll see Pikes Peak rise more than 4,600 meters above sea level, with the summit accessible via the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, operating only during the summer.

In Colorado Springs, the conservative atmosphere is partly due to the strong military presence and numerous fundamentalist religious groups.
From here, visit the Gardens of the Gods, a red sandstone area sacred to the indigenous people.
The next day, you reach the “Mile High City”, Colorado’s capital, named for its exact altitude of one mile above sea level.

Another day is set aside for travelers to explore Rocky Mountain National Park, famous for its 3,500+ meter peaks, alpine lakes, dramatic canyons, and spacious valleys. Not to miss: Trail Ridge Road, an 80-kilometer route crossing the park from east to west and rising up to 4,000 meters.

Day Fourteen

On the fourteenth day, with some reluctance, it’s time to bid farewell to this American adventure and return to Italy.

Prices start from 1,170 euros per person in a double room, accommodation only, for a 13-night, 14-day self-drive tour.

The price includes flights from Italy to the USA, accommodation in programmed hotels, car rental, and a personalized road book. The package is available from April through October 2009.
