The name of the building comes from the “sessions” during which the Spanish viceroys listened to the complaints and pleas of the prisoners in the adjacent jails located near the San Pancrazio tower. Arranged on two floors resting on a high base, at the center of which opens the door called San Pancrazio or della Zecca, it constitutes the passage between the two adjacent squares Indipendenza and Arsenale. The original core, with only one floor, dates back to the late 16th – early 17th century while important works aimed at the elevation were carried out in 1825, as recalled by an inscription placed on the door. At the end of the 19th century, with the transfer of the prison to the new Buon Cammino complex, the buildings adjacent to the San Pancrazio Tower were abandoned or repurposed. From the early 20th century until the mid-1980s, it housed the Collection of the National Art Gallery of Cagliari. Currently, it is home to the offices of the Superintendency for Archaeological Heritage for the provinces of Cagliari and Oristano. The palace is visitable upon request.
