It’s not uncommon to misplace belongings—valuable or not—not only while exploring your destination, but also during the journey itself, including on the means of transport.
British Airways reports that a surprising variety of items are left on board their planes, especially during the spring and summer seasons.
For British Airways flights departing from and arriving at London Heathrow alone, around 30,000 items are left in the cabin each year.
Smartphones and tablets are the most commonly forgotten or misplaced devices on board. After those, travelers most often lose watches, coats, and jewelry.
However, the airline recently published a rather unusual list: the top 10 strangest items found on British Airways planes by the cabin crew:
Here’s the top ten:
- A box of German sausages
- An infrared massager
- A denture container
- An equestrian helmet
- A blue yoga mat
- A pair of Nordic walking poles
- Two felt cowboy hats
- A child’s car seat
- A booklet of morning and evening prayers
- A tapestry.
Amusing anecdotes aside, what should you do if you lose something on a British Airways flight?
The cabin crew collects all items found after landing and keeps them for 6 or 7 hours. After this initial period, all lost property is transferred to the airport’s lost and found office. To recover your belongings, you’ll need to contact the airport depot, keeping in mind that a daily storage fee applies. Though not expensive, it’s an extra cost to consider when claiming lost items.
