EasyJet hand luggage size
After booking an easyJet flight, it’s important to make sure your hand luggage and/or checked baggage meets the airline’s requirements. One of the most common questions when packing your suitcase for a flight is: what are easyJet’s baggage size rules?
For the London-based airline, easyJet’s hand baggage size can vary depending on whether you want to ensure you keep your bag in the cabin.
Sometimes, not all hand luggage can fit in the overhead bins, especially on busy flights. In this case, your hand baggage may be placed in the hold by staff at no extra cost.
easyJet baggage dimensions
- If you want to guarantee your bag will travel in the cabin, easyJet recommends bringing a bag no larger than 50 x 40 x 20 cm (including wheels and handles).
- The maximum size for hand luggage with easyJet is 56 x 45 x 25 cm (including wheels and handles). Bags within these dimensions will be accepted free of charge.

easyJet also specifies that there’s no weight limit for hand baggage, as long as you can place and retrieve it from the overhead compartment without help from the crew.
If your bag exceeds the size limits mentioned above, you’ll need to check it in and pay €35 at the check-in desks. If you reach the boarding gate with a non-compliant bag, the fee increases to €55.

You can take an extra underseat bag, like a laptop case or handbag. Max dimensions: 45 x 36 x 20 cm. Bags must be placed under the seat in front of you.

EasyJet checked baggage
For easyJet’s checked baggage allowance, which can be purchased during booking for up to three items per passenger, only weight matters.
Checked bag weight for easyJet. The airline doesn’t limit bag size, but each item must not exceed 23 kg. So, checked baggage dimensions for easyJet are not relevant.
Regarding checked baggage for easyJet, to make things easier the airline allows you to ‘pool’ your combined weight allowance between items and passengers, as long as no single bag weighs more than 32 kg. Each passenger can purchase up to 3 checked bags. You can buy extra weight in 3 kg increments, up to a maximum of 32 kg per item. No bag can exceed 32 kg. Maximum total size (length + width + height) must be less than 275 cm.
Checked baggage for special items. For information on transporting sports equipment or restricted items, please check the full policy published on easyJet’s website.
easyJet: sports equipment
Sports equipment allowance can be purchased per customer. You may buy up to six pieces per reservation online, even if there are more than six passengers. The total weight allowance for sports equipment and checked luggage may be pooled, provided no single item exceeds 32 kg. (For example, if your total allowance is 52 kg, you could bring a checked bag weighing 31 kg and sports equipment of 21 kg.) There are two categories of sports equipment allowance, depending on size:
| Small (max 20 kg) | Large (max 32 kg) |
| Golf clubs | Bicycles (see requirements below) |
| Ski and boots | Canoes and kayaks |
| Snowboards | Windsurf and surfboards |
| Diving equipment | Hang gliders |
| Paragliding parachutes | |
| Pole vault poles up to 450 cm | |
| Sporting firearms (see requirements below) |
How to transport a bicycle with easyJet
You may take your bicycle, but it must be packed as follows for checked-in transport:
- The bicycle must be in a bike box or bike bag
- Each box/bag can only contain one bike
- The handlebars must not stick out from the frame
- Pedals must be removed or not protrude
- No other items may be packed in the box or bag (e.g., clothes)
It’s strongly advised to deflate the tires and use a hard case for extra protection. Electric bikes are not allowed.
easyJet, musical instruments
In cabin. Instruments carried in the cabin must be under 30 x 120 x 38 cm and fit in the overhead locker. Violins, violas, flutes, piccolos, trumpets, and horns are allowed and each counts as one cabin bag. You can’t book a seat for small instruments as they cannot be safely strapped in. If you carry one instrument as your only hand luggage and the case is too small, you may bring a small bag to fit under the seat for free. A larger instrument, like a cello, can be brought on board by purchasing an extra seat. Alternatively, you can check your instrument as a hold item.
To book a seat for your instrument, just add a new passenger to your booking with the name ‘Mr Seat Cello’. For safety, musical instruments in seats must be window seat only and maximum height, including the case, is 110 cm. If you’ve already booked and want to add an instrument, please contact our Customer Service team.
In the hold. Any instrument larger than 30 x 120 x 38 cm, such as a double bass or harp, cannot be taken on board as cabin baggage. You must add this item to your booking as checked baggage. Make sure it’s properly and securely packed. We recommend purchasing dedicated travel insurance for your instrument before your trip.
