The International Organization for Animal Protection (OIPA) reports that, while there are currently no significant changes for travelers moving from the European Union to the United Kingdom, new rules do apply for UK citizens entering the EU with their pets.

From the UK to the EU. Following Brexit, UK citizens may still travel to the European Union with their pets, but existing European pet passports will no longer be valid and will be replaced by a specific veterinary certificate. Pets must be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days prior to travel, treated for tapeworm, and accompanied by an Animal Health Certificate (AHC).

The same requirements apply to pets travelling from Great Britain to Northern Ireland. The AHC is valid for 10 days from the date of issue for entry into the EU and for a single journey within Europe. Inside the EU, it remains valid for four months from the date of issue. The same validity applies for returning to Great Britain. Veterinary certificates must be written in both English and the official language of the country you are visiting with your pet.
