Starting from next October 27, the four-day event of the Mediterranean Archaeological Tourism Fair in Paestum begins, now in its nineteenth edition.
The program for the nineteenth edition of the Mediterranean Fair of Archaeological Tourism in Paestum, from October 27 to 30, includes a wide participation of industry professionals. The opening conference will feature the presence of Minister Franceschini.

On Thursday, October 27, at the Archaeological Museum, the Commission of Tourism Assessors of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces will take place, followed by the joint public session of the Tourism Assessors and the ENIT Federal Council with Dorina Bianchi State Undersecretary for Tourism, Evelina Christillin ENIT President, Carlo Corazza Head of the Tourism Unit of the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship, and SMEs of the European Commission, Giovanni Lolli Coordinator of the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Commission of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces and Vice President of Abruzzo Region, Antonia Pasqua Recchia Secretary General of MiBACT.

On Friday, October 28, the Conference “Mediterranean Archaeological Museums for intercultural dialogue” will be held as part of the event #pernondimenticare the Bardo Museum, March 18, 2015: since last year, the fair aims to remember the attack on the Tunis Museum because every citizen of the world, beyond religious or political affiliations, must be aware that cultural heritage is a common good and a symbol of national identity in the service of intercultural dialogue. On Friday, October 28, the International Archaeological Discovery Award “Khaled al-Asaad” for the most significant archaeological discovery of 2015 will be presented, in the presence of Walid Asaad, son of the Palmyra archaeologist who paid with his life to defend cultural heritage. The award, promoted by the Fair and Archeo and in its second edition, will be awarded in collaboration with international media partners of BMTA: Antike Welt (Germany), Archäologie der Schweiz (Switzerland), Current Archaeology (United Kingdom), Dossiers d’Archéologie (France). Moreover, a “Special Award” will be given to the discovery that receives the most support on the Fair’s Facebook page. In this second edition, the five archaeological discoveries selected are: France – Celtic Tomb at Lavau, Greece – 22 underwater wrecks in the Fourni archipelago, England – Subterranean monument near Stonehenge, Italy – Etruscan Tomb in Città della Pieve, Palestine – Tombs of the Khalet al-Jam’a Necropolis.
The “Paestum Archaeology” prize, awarded to those who contribute to cultural heritage enhancement, will be given to:

On Friday, October 28, the “Antonella Fiammenghi” award, now in its tenth edition, will be awarded to the first-place graduate who prepared a thesis on BMTA or archaeological tourism. Established in 2007 in memory of Antonella Fiammenghi, Director of the Velia Archaeological Park, the award aims to recognize those who promote archaeological tourism through academic engagement.
On Friday, October 28, the Official presentation of the “Blue Helmets of the Sea” will be held, moderated by Andreas M. Steiner Director of “Archeo”, with the presence of Anna Arzhanova President of CMAS World Underwater Activities Confederation, Ilaria Borletti Buitoni Undersecretary of State for Cultural Heritage and Activities, Silvia Costa President of the Culture and Education Committee of the European Parliament, Sebastiano Tusa Superintendent of the Sea of the Sicilian Region and National President of the Italian Underwater Archaeological Groups: within its activities, CMAS promotes initiatives related to underwater archaeology and is preparing to organize a structure ready to intervene worldwide for research and protection of underwater archaeological heritage.
On Saturday, October 29, the “Towards a National Coordination of Archaeologists” meeting will take place, with the participation of Giuliano Volpe President of the Higher Council for Cultural and Landscape Heritage of MiBACT and of the Associations ANA (National Archaeologists Association), ASSOTECNICI (National Association of Technical Experts for Cultural, Environmental, and Landscape Heritage Protection), CIA (Italian Archaeologists Confederation), CAMC (Classical World Archaeology University Group), FAS (Underwater Archaeologists Federation), SAMI (Society of Medieval Archaeologists).
ArcheoVirtual, a showcase and workshop dedicated to virtual archaeology, is a section created in collaboration with the Institute for Technologies Applied to Cultural Heritage of the CNR.
The most advanced technologies meet archaeology in the exciting ArcheoVirtual gallery – this year dedicated to the theme of landscape – which will allow visitors, thanks to original interactive and virtual productions, to be transported to antiquity and embark on a journey through time.
The Fair promotes the development of cultural heritage through social media and storytelling with dedicated events:
– Friday, October 28, the meeting curated by Archeostorie “Museum Tales. Author storytelling for the 4.0 museum”;
– Saturday, October 29, the “Paestum Digital Storytelling School” seminar, i.e., how to narrate the past using a combination of texts, videos, and images, curated by the Swipe Story team, in collaboration with Archeostorie;
– Saturday, October 29, “Everything else is boredom. Winning the audience with unconventional means: archaeology among gamification, reenacting, and social media” curated by ArcheoPop and Professione Archeologo, which aims to bring together for the first time experts in historical reenactment and authors, to discuss issues of archaeological communication through entertainment content and showcase best practices and successful examples.
