Vipiteno Christmas Market 2021
A huge tree, wooden huts, and Christmas decorations among the houses, windows, and the Twelve Tower create a unique magic that can only be felt at the Vipiteno Christmas Market. This year’s novelty is the theme of “Christmas Bells,” to which all events scheduled until January 6, 2022, are dedicated. For example, there are 25 bells composing the carillon – made by the Grassmayr bell foundry in Innsbruck – installed on the Twelve Tower and ringing every Saturday, Sunday, and holiday at 5:00 p.m. with a piece recorded by composer and musician Josef Haller of Vipiteno. The typical wooden huts offering culinary specialties as well as Christmas decorations, soaps, alpine herb teas, and much more are not missing.
To the north of the Isarco Valley, Vipiteno is a city with an ancient mining history characterized by its historic center, a beautiful example of medieval art: the imposing Twelve Tower in the main square serves as the backdrop to the market that lights up Piazza Città from November 30 to January 7, 2008.
It is an ancient Tyrolean parade: a thousand lights, a thousand colors, a thousand songs, a thousand fairy tales. In this splendid setting, the Christmas events of Vipiteno take place, a shining South Tyrolean location. Here it is possible to spend a real fairytale Christmas, that is, the one each of us has dreamed of at least once.
Certainly, one should not miss the nativity scene at the Twelve Tower, the highlight of the nativity scenes set up throughout the town. These are unique pieces, dating back to different eras. The nativity scene at the Twelve Tower is particularly valuable: the figurines were handmade, a sign of an ancient art still interesting and full of meaning today. To preserve this tradition, children will be involved, invited to build cardboard nativity scenes that they can then take home.
Also in Vipiteno, as is traditional in all other South Tyrol centers, the Christmas Markets attract many visitors. If you have not yet finished preparing Christmas parcels, there is still time to buy from the many colorful and picturesque stalls of the Christmas market in Piazza Città.
In the alleys of the South Tyrolean center, moreover, as usual, the enchanting Christmas procession is held, composed of the ancient Tyrolean parade. Musicians and simple extras enliven the cold days of Vipiteno, involving visitors in an atmosphere of times past.
And to rest, after these pleasant walks among tradition, fairy tale, and Christmas magic, it is possible to take a pleasant relaxing break in the Vigil Raber room, open every weekend before Christmas.
Vipiteno is a medieval city and the city of the Fuggers. Over time it has preserved without changes its poetic and colorful temperament. It is located at almost one thousand meters altitude and currently has almost six thousand inhabitants. In the past this place was the seat of several kings and emperors. Currently, elegant shops suited for shopping at any time of the year are found in the streets of the historic center.
Also in Vipiteno in South Tyrol, the pines and firs, in their majesty, are decorated with apples, cookies, nuts, and other delicacies, to the delight of the little ones.

What could be more romantic than a carriage ride through the alleys of the historic center of Vipiteno? A unique opportunity to delight both adults and children, discovering the markets this small village offers, perhaps stopping by the nativity scene exhibition in the Twelve Tower.
From December 8 to 10, at the mountain station of the Monte Cavallo leisure mountain, it is possible to visit a small but delightful market with typical local products, in contact with the real artisans of Vipiteno and tasting local products such as bread and sausages or barley soup, polenta with mushrooms, dumplings and mushrooms, at the Hotel Post.
Very characteristic are the guided tours that on certain days of the week take visitors to the Monteneve mines in Val Ridanna.
Finally, alpine music and Christmas carols give this Vipiteno Christmas Market, often blanketed with snow, a truly unique atmosphere.
