In the features of red domes that tower in the sky of Palermo, the church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti refers to the architectural typology of mosques. The origins of the building date back to the 6th century; after being transformed into a mosque during the Arab domination, it was brought back by Roger II to the original worship around 1136. A major renovation affected the church around 1880 by Giuseppe Patricolo.
The cloister is from the Norman period and is greatly influenced by the proximity of the Royal Palace just a few meters away.
