La villa is located at the foot of the hill of San Michele and takes its name from Count Gaetano Pollini, a wealthy wheat merchant transplanted to Sardinia but originally from Liguria, who had it built in 1812. The building is part of a small urban nucleus including a chapel, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, now destroyed, the premises for agricultural activities and for the staff. The facade, in neoclassical style, has a horizontal development with a tripartition emphasized by two advanced lateral wings with pediments and by a central curved body, in which opens a beautiful portal flanked by columns and topped by a balcony. In front there was a large Italian-style garden, of which some palm trees and the basin of a circular fountain remain, while at the back a large courtyard housed the spaces intended for agricultural activities. The various owners who, after the Pollini family, lived in the villa, including Francesco Zedda Piras, who in honor of his wife named it Villa Doloretta, certainly modified the original internal layout, of which no traces remain. Acquired by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, after restoration work, since 2007 it has been the operational headquarters of the Superintendency for archaeological heritage for the provinces of Cagliari and Oristano.
