Il Centro per la Cultura Ludica Walter Ferrarotti is a place of information, training, documentation, exhibition space, meeting point, and exchange. It offers a concrete example of what ludic culture means.
Reopened in a larger new location in 1997, the Center is the cornerstone of that complex of services which are the Centers for Game Culture (toy libraries and Hospital Play Group) and the activities designed and carried out there. It permanently hosts:
- the Peremprüner collection, more than two thousand toys and games from the Italian popular tradition;
- the Games from Around the World collection, about six hundred toys from all over the world;
- the permanent exhibition “Games, Toys, and Amusements in Antiquity,” fifty-four panels that trace the history of games and toys in antiquity;
- Modern Times, an exhibition of about a hundred vintage industrially produced toys from the 20th century, complemented by catalog collections;
- 1000 Years of Games, a research presented on an interactive CD, which collects the history of games and toys from the Middle Ages to Industrialization through artistic iconography;
- the collection of collections, a permanent exhibition of about a hundred collectible themes, ranging from the usual to the unusual, continuously enriched by proposals of new lines.
The Center aims to welcome playful objects capable not only of bearing witness to the evolution of toys from antiquity to today but also of stimulating reflection and research on what is a toy
