Il Museo di Chimica is affiliated with the Museum Hub of La SAPIENZA University. It was established in 1986 and opened to the public in 1992.
It is located on the ground floor of the Department of Chemistry. The museum has an area of about 250 square meters divided into two rooms; one has a historical character, the second is dedicated to interactive experiments.
It displays and preserves scientific equipment, teaching instruments, collections of chemical substances and documents belonging to S. Cannizzaro and his group, dating back to 1872, when Cannizzaro arrived in Rome and established the Royal Chemical Institute. Mention should also be made of cryoscopes, ebulliometers, thermometers, ancient equipment for elemental analysis, colorimeters, spectroscopes, and the color plates by von Schroeder related to the first chemical plants.
Some equipment for measuring radioactivity, built by G.A. Blanc, who worked at the same Institute at the beginning of the 20th century, is also exhibited. The Museum also displays more recent chemical equipment.
