Minervino Murge is located on the northern edge of the Murge, in an area where artifacts dating back to the Neolithic period have been found. On May 12, 2002, the archaeological artifacts of the original Museum organized by archaeologist Giuseppe D’Aloja were assembled in an archaeological exhibition called “When the Ofanto was amber-colored” inside the Town Hall. In this exhibition, various artifacts are displayed, such as amphorae, everyday utensils, and weapons dating back to an extended historical period covering the first millennium BC, from the creation of the first settlement located near Lama Matitani, to the first centuries of the Roman Empire. Among the various artifacts, we remember the little treasure with sixteen silver coins from Campania, Arpi, and even Greek Corinth, indicating the existence of a wide area of trade exchanges in the 3rd century BC; precious jewelry such as worked amber necklaces and ornaments in gold, silver, and bronze that testify to the aristocratic and princely presence of women between the 6th and 5th centuries BC; the symposium crater and strigil indicating the influence of Greek culture in the Melfese area of the 4th century BC; swords and belts that characterized the clothing of the warrior aristocracy.
