A Torgnon, in the Triatel hamlet, is located the most complete museum ecosystem of the Aosta Valley.
The site, the architecture, and the history make the Musée Petit-Monde a cultural asset of considerable interest for the entire Aosta community. A raccard in a row, a unique example in the Valley, a grande and a grenier, built between 1462 and 1700, restored and enhanced by a very original setup, today bear witness to a past that is at risk of being forgotten.
The visit begins on the ground floor of the raccard with the permanent exhibition “The labyrinth of memory,” which tells the true story of man, the origin, the evolution of the village, the life and social organization of the inhabitants of this small ancient world.
The texts, a synthesis of historical research, also understandable by the youngest, are enhanced by drawings by Francesco Corni.
Visiting the collections in the numerous tsé and tzambron (internal rooms), one can immerse oneself in the life of the local inhabitants, a hard life, marked by the slow rhythms of fieldwork. Silence stimulates memories and imagination: one can imagine the ancient sounds of the village, the scents of hay and wheat, the smell of animals, and the little square of the museum, which every day in the summer months comes alive with visitors, encouraging the typical mountain village chats. Thus, the museum transforms and from a guardian of memory becomes a place full of vitality and stories.
The journey is completed with a visit to the mill, which is located a short distance away on the Petit Monde stream.
To appreciate the place and the nature, it is possible to reach the museum site on foot, through an easy path that allows admiring the splendid panorama over Torgnon, Valtournenche, and the Matterhorn.
