The historic center of Castelfranco di Sopra is very characteristic and well preserved. The village, in fact, is equipped with imposing defensive walls as a testament to the violent clashes between the Florentine Republic and the feudal aristocracy in the 13th century, including operations and looting guerrillas.

The central square of the small Tuscan village is very characteristic and hosts a thriving little market. Among the main monuments of the place you can admire the Tower, the Oratory of San Filippo Neri from the 18th century, the Town Hall, the Church of San Tommaso from the 17th century, the Abbey of San Salvatore in Soffena (11th century), which is a very suggestive abbey inside which many 15th-century paintings are preserved. Also important is the Wanda Capodoglio Municipal Theater, named after the famous prose actress who spent the last years of her life in Castelfranco.

The nature trails

Not to be missed are the balze of the Valdarno, formed following a very interesting geological phenomenon caused by the erosion of the ancient sedimentary deposit. The Bandella Natural Reserve and the Inferno valley, is a nature reserve created on the Arno river, characterized by several nature trails that I recommend you take in the spring and summer periods.
The reserve is divided into paths that you can walk to admire the natural beauties of the place. The landscapes are fantastic and the area is very relaxing. In summer, excursions on the lake are also organized, which you can access through a jetty.
From the ancient village of Castelfranco di Sopra, it is also easy to reach the most renowned areas of Tuscany, including the Chianti area, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, and San Galgano.
