Il Museo diocesano “Giovanni Tarantini” is housed in the eighteenth-century Archbishop’s Palace of Brindisi, continuing the principles of preservation and protection that motivated the archpriest and theologian to whom it is symbolically dedicated. The exhibition begins in the ground floor atrium with the Lapidary section and the rooms hosting the Sacred Art section, continuing to the first floor where the Art Gallery is located. A detached section of the museum is located at the church of San Benedetto. The Archbishop’s Seminary Palace of Brindisi is the highest example of Baroque in the city. It was built using part of the materials from the basilica of San Leucio for the decorations, such as white marbles and the doors of the façade. The palace, completed in 1720, was commissioned by Archbishop Paolo de Villana Perlas and designed by the Lecce architect Mauro Manieri. The façade of the building seems to recall the style of the oratory palace of the Filippini and the Propaganda Fide college of Rome. The façade features as many as eight ornamental statues representing: Mathematics, Oratory, Ethics, Theology, Philosophy, Jurisprudence, Poetics, and Harmony. Inside there is a valuable chapel.
