Il Fuseum is located in Perugia, in the Monte Malbe area; it is a park-museum that collects almost 150 works by the artist and doctor from Perugia Brajo Fuso (1899-1980). After a figurative debut, Brajo turned towards experimentation, focusing on the potential of color, gesture (anticipating the results of Pollock’s Action painting) and later on matter, becoming one of the greatest representatives of the poetics of “scrap art” and found objects. The name Fuseum comes from the fusion between the surname Fuso and the word “museum,” according to the wishes of the artist and his wife (Elisabetta Rampielli, also a painter), who from 1960 built in the holm oak park north of the city a complex populated by sculptures made with the most various materials, a work of art realized over two decades and composed of multiple independent parts. Upon the artist’s death, the property passed, according to his wishes, to the Sodalizio di San Martino, an ancient city institution of assistance, charity, and culture founded in 1574. In the “Gallery” since 2008 a rich selection of Fuso’s works has been gathered: eleven environments already set up by the artist host groups of objects divided by cycles (Straticromie, Acidocromo, Cromoggetti, Legni, Metalloplastiche, etc.), the so-called “Coccibus” collects much of his ceramics and the earliest figurative works, the “Pittocromo” reconstructs his studio with much of the materials and tools used to create his bizarre compositions.
