The Angioina Tower is the only remaining element of the castle built by the Angevins, destroyed by the 1694 earthquake. The castle, which consisted of four lateral guard towers and was surrounded by a deep moat, was the subject of two long and bloody sieges, which took place in 1361 and 1496. Source: MIBACT
