Ryanair non-priority customers who have not added a bag to their booking can still purchase a 10kg bag at the airport's bag drop desk for an additional fee.

Ryanair: priority and 2 hand bags

This service allows you to take advantage of Ryanair priority boarding and represents the only way to bring two bags on board: a small hand bag, to be placed under the seat in front of you and the other (maximum 10 kg) to be stored in the appropriate overhead bins in the upper part of the cabin.

Ryanair: 20kg check-in bag

Before proceeding to the security check, you must check in your 20kg baggage at the Ryanair counter. Your baggage can be collected at the baggage carousel at the arrival airport.

(November 2018 update directly from the Ryanair website)

From 1 November 2018, Ryanair passengers who have not purchased priority boarding and who wish to bring a 10kg large hand bag (trolley) will need to purchase a 10kg checked bag. If the baggage is purchased at the time of the initial Ryanair booking, the cost will be €8, otherwise, if added later to the booking (up to 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time) the cost will be €10.

Your 10kg checked bag must be dropped off at the Ryanair bag drop desk before going through security. Ryanair passengers who have not added the 10kg checked hand baggage to their booking can purchase it at the airport: if purchased at the baggage drop desk, the cost will be €20, otherwise, if purchased at the boarding gate, the cost will be €25. €. Large checked hand luggage can be collected in the baggage claim area at the destination airport (NB: remember to always bring your passport with you to go through passport control at the destination airport). It is possible to purchase hand luggage checked in according to the new Ryanair regulation from 1 September 2018 for travel from 1 November 2018 onwards (included).

The main benefits of this new regulation will be the reduction of delays flights and cheaper checked baggage options. Further benefits for Ryanair passengers are the ability to carry more liquids in their 10kg checked hand luggage and to be able to walk to the boarding gate “hands free”. Additionally, we increased the size of the small carry-on bag by 43%, from 35x20x20 to 40x20x25.

What is the difference to Ryanair's previous hand baggage policy?

Previously, all Ryanair customers who had not purchased Priority Boarding could take 1 smaller hand bag and 1 larger piece of luggage (trolley) into the cabin for free.

The largest Ryanair bag was tagged at the boarding gate and placed in the hold free of charge. This led to up to 120 free bags being tagged at the boarding gate, causing departure delays of up to 25 minutes.

Starting from November, Ryanair customers who have not purchased Priority Boarding will only be able to bring 1 free piece of hand luggage (the smallest) into the cabin and there will not be the possibility of storing luggage for free at the gate. Only customers who have purchased Priority Boarding will be able to continue to carry two bags on board for free (1 smaller bag + 1 trolley).

What changes for Ryanair customers who have already booked a flight before 1st September to travel from 1st November?

The new Ryanair baggage policy will apply to all trips from 1 November included. Ryanair customers who have not purchased Priority Boarding and booked a flight before 1st September (for travel after 1st November) can add Priority Boarding for €8* or one 10kg checked bag per cost of €10* or they can cancel their booking and get a full refund. * (price for addition after booking)

What happens if the “smallest” bag doesn't fit in the Ryanair sizer?

If the free small bag of Ryanair customers who have not purchased Priority Boarding does not fit the new sizer, this means that their bag is 25% larger than the permitted measurements. They will pay a baggage fee of €25 and it will be labeled and placed in the hold.

Where are small bags placed on board Ryanair?

How many trolleys is there space for on board Ryanair?
