The Benedictine abbey of San Vincenzo al Volturno is located about two kilometers from the sources of the river of the same name, in a favorable position on the fertile Piana di Rocchetta, defended by the Mainarde and Meta chains to the west and by the Matese massif to the south.

In a well-preserved natural setting, the architectural complex of the Abbey of Sant'Antonio di Ranverso a Rosta still appears perfectly recognizable in its original composition today.

Although the legend traces its foundation back to Charlemagne, the first document in which the Ecclesia of Santa Maria di Vezzolano is mentioned dates back to 1095.
