The archaeological area of Grumentum, a thriving Lucanian center conquered by Roma during the XNUMXrd century BC, represents a unique example in Basilicata of a Roman urban layout preserved almost entirely to this day.

The visit takes place in a landscape of exceptional beauty in which the public and private spaces of the Roman city are divided, still delineated by the regularity of the ancient road axes. From the theater you can reach the Italic temple, the domus with mosaics and, along the pavement of the decumanus, the Forum area with the public - civil and religious buildings: Capitolium, Cesareo, Porticus, Curia and Basilica. The route then continues up to the imperial baths and the monumental amphitheatre, strategically positioned on the eastern edge of the hill.
