The district educational museum of natural history of Niscemi was founded in 1989 with the desire to create a distinctly educational structure, to illustrate the naturalistic and geographical aspects of the Sicilia central-southern and its reserves. A part of the museum is dedicated to geography and paleogeography and to fossils from the Niscemi and Caltagirone area. Ample space is then given to the illustration of the environment of the Sughereta and the Bosco di San Pietro, with materials referring to reptiles, mammals, birds and insects. Finally, some dioramas reproduce the natural environment of the "Macconi" of Gela, the dune formations that separate the internal coast from the sea, of which unfortunately very little remains today.
