The Museum, located inside the Frederick castle of Melfi, presents the important archaeological documentation found in the Vulture-Melfese area. The funerary objects date back to the Archaic Age and have revealed refined Daunian ceramics with geometric decorations, bronze armour, precious ornaments in silver, gold and amber as well as bronze vases of both Greek and Etruscan production. The classical section focuses on extraordinary finds from the XNUMXth-XNUMXrd century BC including red-figure Magna Graecia ceramics and monumental vases with polychrome decoration with applied figures, of Canosine production, found in Lavello (ancient Forentum). The Roman phase is documented by an exceptional marble sarcophagus from the XNUMXnd century AD with relief decoration, referable to workshops in Asia Minor which features the deceased "sleeper" on the lid and Roman gods and heroes framed in niches on the lateral slabs.
