Roman gymnasium, Syracuse

Roman gymnasium Syracuse
Roman gymnasium Syracuse
It is a monumental complex dating back to the second half of the XNUMXst century AD which includes a small theatre, surrounded on three sides by a portico, and a temple.
A good part of the portico is now illegible while the cavea of the theater remains visible, with all the charm of the bradyseism that has invaded the scene. In front of the latter, in the center of the portico, there was a small peripteral temple raised on a high podium. It is probable that it was dedicated to oriental mystery cults.”
