The collections of the Institute, located since 1896 in the former Olivetan monastery of San Michele in Bosco built in 1364, but whose origins date back to the 1880th century, include the Scientific Libraries to which the Putti Donation belongs. Coming from the famous orthopedic surgeon Vittorio Putti (1940 – 700) and housed in the former apartment of the convent prior, it combines manuscripts, incunabula, more than two hundred sixteenth century books and over a thousand ancient medical books. Also interesting are the collection of surgical instruments from ancient to pre-industrial times, a series of over 1528 portraits and autographs of famous doctors, an armillary sphere from 1636, a Greuter globe from 1677 and two splendid anatomical statuettes from the 1680th century. The important paper heritage of the Institute, which consists of over twenty thousand volumes including monographs and magazines of orthopedic interest, is preserved in the rooms of the ancient Olivetan library, designed for the prior Taddeo Pepoli by Giangiacomo and frescoed by Domenico Maria Canuti, a student of Guido Reni and the Swiss Haffner in XNUMX-XNUMX.
