Wizz Air strengthens its presence in the Campania airport system with an important growth plan involving the airports of Naples and Salerno. Starting December 14, 2026, the airline will base a third Airbus A321neo aircraft in Naples, increasing the offer by over 500,000 seats and introducing three new international routes to Spain: Barcelona, Madrid, and Bilbao.<\/p>\n
These new connections, together with the increase in frequencies to Venice Marco Polo from 11 to 14 weekly flights, will bring Wizz Air’s network from Naples to 23 routes to 13 countries, enhancing both international and domestic connectivity of the Campania airport. Tickets for the new routes are already on sale starting from \u20ac24.99.<\/p>\n
In addition to the expansion in Naples, Wizz Air has announced an ambitious development plan for Salerno Costa d\u2019Amalfi and Cilento Airport. Starting from 2027, the airline will launch three new international routes from Salerno, with a gradual increase up to six connections by 2030, thereby strengthening regional connectivity and the area’s tourism and economic opportunities.<\/p>\n
The investment in Naples foresees the creation of about 40 new direct jobs, adding to the more than 80 professionals already present, and 350 indirect jobs in related industries. Since launching operations, Wizz Air has transported more than 6.7 million passengers from Naples, confirming the airport\u2019s central role in the airline\u2019s growth strategy in Southern Italy.<\/p>\n
Ian Malin, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air, emphasized the importance of Naples as a high-potential market and highlighted the intention to consolidate the presence in Southern Italy, extending growth also to Salerno to improve air mobility and opportunities for economic and tourism development.<\/p>\n
Roberto Barbieri, CEO of GESAC, noted how the arrival of the third aircraft and the new routes to Spain strengthen the strategic role of the Campania airport system and the partnership with Wizz Air, underlining the value of expansion also for the Salerno airport.<\/p>\n
The new Airbus A321neo, a next-generation aircraft appreciated for comfort, reduced noise, and lower emissions compared to previous models, is part of a growth path already started by Wizz Air in Naples, which increased operational capacity by 62% compared to the previous year, with a 133.6% rise for the summer 2026 season.<\/p>\n
In 2025, Wizz Air transported over 21 million passengers in Italy, an 8% increase compared to 2024, with a reliability rate of 99.6%. With a fleet of 44 aircraft based in the country and a market share of 12%, the airline is the second carrier in Italy and plans to offer over 32 million seats in 2026.<\/p>\n
Wizz Air operates with a fleet of 267 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft and stands out for services at competitive fares.
