For their tenth anniversary, numerous activities will be held, including the traditional cake cutting<\/strong>, taking photos at the foot of the airplane, and celebrations with passengers at Bari Palese and Milan Malpensa airports<\/strong> on December 11 and 12, and Rome Fiumicino<\/strong> on December 17.<\/p>\n

easyJet<\/strong> began its presence in the Italian market in 1998 with 4 routes. After 10 years, thanks to new destinations launched and the affection shown by Italian passengers<\/strong>, there are now 73 routes offered by the low-cost airline<\/strong>. Approximately 24 million passengers have chosen to travel with easyJet from 1998 to today, of whom 7 million in 2008 alone, allowing the company to achieve a 6% share of the Italian market.<\/p>\n

Today, easyJet is the leading carrier by number of passengers transported to and from the Milan Malpensa airport<\/strong> – the company’s primary base on mainland Europe – with a market share of 26%, double that of last year. This love grows year by year, considering that about 4 million passengers traveled with easyJet passing through this airport in 2008, a 68% increase compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n

Highlighting the strategic importance of Italy for the company, and even more so for Italian and foreign passengers wishing to visit the capital for leisure or business, it has doubled its presence in Rome by adding flights from and to Ciampino<\/strong> and new routes from and to Fiumicino. In 2008, 1.1 million passengers transited through the two Rome airports<\/strong>, where easyJet currently holds a 3% market share.<\/p>\n

This year, 400,000 easyJet customers traveled from and to Bari – one of the most important commercial, industrial, and tourist centers in the South – enabling the low-cost company<\/strong> to double its market share – now 10% – compared to 2007. For easyJet, these figures are evidence of the awareness of the great potential offered by Puglia<\/strong>, made even more evident by the recent launch of the Milan Malpensa\u2013Brindisi route<\/strong> for connections with Salento.<\/p>\n
