It has been announced in recent days that local administrations of the Aeolian Islands have also decided to approve a regulation in order to start collecting the so-called “disembarkation tax.” The final approval by the commission and the Council is still pending, but it appears quite likely.
\nTherefore, starting from next spring, every person arriving on one of the Aeolian Islands may be required to pay the disembarkation fee, as established by the Lipari administration.
\nClearly, the amount to be paid will vary depending on the time of year when arriving at Alicudi, Filicudi, Lipari, Panarea, Stromboli, and Vulcano. At the time of writing, the duty will not be applicable to Salina.
\nSeveral prices have been set, to be applied according to this schedule:
\n– from April 1 to May 31: 2.50 euros per person
\n– from June 1 to September 30: 5 euros per person
\n– from October 1 to October 31: 2.50 euros per person.<\/p>\n
The disembarkation fee must be paid both when arriving by sea with maritime carriers operating routes to the Aeolian Islands and in case of helicopter use. This includes both public and private transportation companies, interchangeably.
\nThe tax will be paid only once, upon departure; therefore, if moving from one island to another, the fee will not be charged multiple times.<\/p>\n
As with other measures of this kind, exemptions to the payment will exist. Residents, commuters, certain categories of workers providing services on the islands (doctors, healthcare staff, law enforcement, etc.), natives of the Aeolian Islands, and family groups that have paid municipal taxes to the largest island municipality will be exempted.
